Thursday April 22nd

9:30 – 10:45 a.m. 
Panel 1 Amphitheater / The PA Budget Crisis and How it Could Affect BU –  A Democracy Matters Panel -- Students and administrators will discuss how decisions in Harrisburg might change things at BU and will pay specific attention to how those things can affect green projects.

Ramey Lynch, of Democracy Matters, will moderate. Administrators scheduled to participate include: Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Ira Blake, Vice President Of Administration and Finance Richard Rugen Students include: Nicalo Pagliaro and George Specht (Young Americans for Liberty), Scott Kenyan (College Republicans), Dan Interrante (Campus Democrats) & Joe Wright (Democracy Matters)

Frederick Douglass Panel A / The Environment and Social Responsibility I – Kehr Union Room 409 / Panel Chair:  Dr. Faith Warner, Bloomsburg University; “Are Guns and Aerosol Killing California?” by Thomas Cook, Brian Histand, Adam Shelp, and Troy Clifton, Bloomsburg University; “Recycling:  The Race to Save Our Planet” by Lisa Brandl, Bloomsburg University; “Recycling—Is it Worth It?” by Chelsea L. Feldman, Bloomsburg University; “Contradiction:  A By-Product of Environmental Awareness?” by Weston T. Brehm, Bloomsburg University

In coordination with The Frederick Douglass Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Conference

9:30 – 12:15 p.m. 
Sustainable Farming – Tour 1 / Organic Farm Tours – Group will visit Dancing Hen Farm, on  Thursday morning, to see sustainable agriculture practices to raise organic crops.

11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Brian Scott, acoustic guitarist and singer, will entertain the attendees at the Amphitheater

Earth Day Foods – Some free food sponsored by ADP and created especially by Aramark for the event will be available along with some free coffee samples. Also throughout the day some groups plan to sell foods as fundraisers that will round out the offerings with traditional and exotic favorites.

Panel 2 Amphitheater (beginning at 11:55) / Green Fees I – Members of H.O. P. E. will propose that a program to raise money for green projects at BU become a new addition to the University.

Steam Plant Conversion – Tour 1 / Steam Plant Conversion – The steam plant on lower campus will be toured with an eye toward the conversion to biofuel usage.

Biofuel Reactor Tour / Cooking Oil Conversion – This tour to upper campus looks at the installation that is used to make biofuel and soap from the used fryer oil from Campus Dining locations on campus.

12:30 – 1:45 p.m.
Panel 3 Amphitheater / Green Collar Jobs – The Tara Trupp of The Son’s Power will discuss the firm’s solar power business. Recreational sports and ecotourism will be on the agenda for Quest’s Bret Simpson, and Carol Barnett from Career Development will review the job outlook for green careers.

Panel 1
– Kehr Union  Multipurpose  B / Nuclear Power – Dr. David Simpson discusses the pros and cons of using nuclear energy to generate electricity in place of using fuels that create greenhouse gasses.

Steam Plant Conversion – Tour 2
/ Steam Plant Conversion – The steam plant on lower campus will be toured with an eye toward the conversion to biofuel usage.

2:00 – 3:15 p.m.
Panel 4 Amphitheater / Green Fees II – Members of H.O. P. E. will propose that a program to raise money for green projects at BU become a new addition to the University and they will fill out their time period with additional green topics.

Panel 2 – Kehr Union  Multipurpose  B / Local Biofuels – Richard Truslowe of SunPoint Renewable Energy and Scott Singer of USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will discuss local biofuel production issues.

2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Sustainable Farming – Tour 2 / Organic Farm Tours – This group will visit Forks Farm, on  Thursday afternoon, to see sustainable agriculture practices to raise organic crops as well as earth-friendly techniques to raise animals.

3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Bob Edgar, President of Common Cause, will outline his organization’s environmental focus (He is being sponsored by the Political Science Student Association – POSSA)

3:45 – 5:00 p.m.
Frederick Douglass Plenary Session / Opportunities for Social Responsibility – Kehr Union Hideaway
Dan Knorr, Mayor of Bloomsburg and former Bloomsburg University Student, Philosophy Professor Dr. Wendy Lee, Bloomsburg students Jaron Nielsen, Daniel J. Interrante, Ckrisen Milfort, and Donte Milligan will talk about opportunities for social responsibility on campus and in the community with elements about responsibility and environmentalism.

4:00 – 7 p.m.
Chef Jessee – Vegetarian table (Inside Scranton Commons) The Campus Dining chef will be creating vegetarian delights. He will offer recipes and demonstrations of how to use ingredients grown locally in the Bloomsburg Area.



Friday April 23rd

10:00 a.m. – 11:00p.m.
Bloomsburg Recycling Center Tour 1/ Bloomsburg Recycling Tour – This tour takes participants to the local recycling center to see the operations there.

11:00 – 12:00 p.m.
Bloomsburg Recycling Center Tour 2 / Bloomsburg Recycling Tour – This tour takes participants to the local recycling center to see the operations there.

Geisinger’s Henry Hood Center for Rural Health Research Tour / Geisinger Green Building Tour – This is an excursion to the Henry Hood Center for Rural Health Research which has won awards for green buildings in six different categories.



Campus Dining’s Earth Week

Monday: Happy bEARTHday at the Commons. Birthday themed decorations/desserts. Earth day information

Tuesday: Weigh the Waste at the Commons / Free refills when you bring a reusable mug to any campus
            dining location

Wednesday: Sustainable seafood item on Restaurant Night Menu

Thursday: Dim the lights at all locations / Vegetarian Table featuring what will be locally available in
this area during the cropping season. Chef Jesse prepares and offers recipes for the vegetarian
fare.

Friday: Sustainable Seafood Friday - with special guest from Hopkins Seafood
